Downeast Energy Awards Scholarships to 18 Maine Students

BRUNSWICK, MAINE – Downeast Energy will award scholarships to 18 high school seniors and college students who are related to Downeast employees. Each scholarship is for up to $1000 per academic year and is based on merit of their academic credentials and community involvement.

“Every year, we are delighted to help in the education of Downeast family members.” said Betsy Morrell, vice president of Downeast Energy. “Our employees are seeing college tuitions rise and we want to do what we can to help their deserving children achieve their degrees.”

Below is a complete list of this year’s scholarship recipients (in alphabetical order):

1. Daniel Bragdon of Wells, a University of Maine Student who will continue education at the University of Maine.

2. Chelsea Craig of Saco is currently attending the University of Southern Maine.

3. Jordan Drouin of Topsham graduated from Mt. Ararat and plans to attend University of New England in the fall.

4. Sam Estes of Dresden, graduated from Hall-Dale and will attend the University of Maine.

5. Brian Farley of Standish is currently attending St. Joseph’s College.

6. Darren Fisher of Winthrop and a graduate of Winthrop High School plans to attend Maine Maritime Academy.

7. Julie Fournier of North Yarmouth is currently attending Smith College.

8. Christina Hebert of Auburn and a graduate of Edward Little High School plans to attend University of Southern Maine in Portland.

9. Andrew Hughes of Yarmouth is currently attending University of Vermont.

10. Laura Mills of Saco and a graduate of Thornton Academy plans to attend the University of Farmington.

11. Eagan Nadeau of Greene and a graduate of Leavitt High School plans to attend Husson College in Bangor.

12. Erik Ogren of Mt. Vernon and a graduate of Maranacook High School will attend Husson College.

13. Jacob Ouellette of Sanford and a graduate of Sanford High School will attend Emerson College.

14. Josh Ouellette of Sanford and also a graduate of Sanford High School plans to attend the University of Southern Maine.

15. Nicholas Owen of Topsham and a graduate of Mt. Ararat High School plans to attend Champlain College.

16. Ashley Salerno of Brunswick and graduate of North Yarmouth Academy plans to attend Amherst College in Massachusetts.

17. Taylor Schmidt of Kennebunk and a graduate of Kennebunk High School plans to attend Johnson & Wales University.

18. Lacey Wilson of Pittston and a graduate of Gardiner plans to attend the University of New England.
